Shade Grown Coffee
Shade Grown Coffe In Vietnam
There is a growing movement in Vietnam towards Shade Grown
Coffee, a traditional farming method which benefits the farmer
and the local environment. Shade grown coffee plantations play a key
role in the conservation of migratory birds that have found a sanctuary
in their forest-like environment.
A typical shade grown coffee farm is made up of coffee trees grown alongside
other food crops under a canopy of taller trees. These taller trees provide
fruit, wood and other valuable products to the farmer while offering
protection and nutrients to the coffee plants and preventing erosion
of the soil.
Shade grown farms also provide vital wildlife habitat. Each year, billions
of migratory birds make the journey from the temperate climates of North
America where they breed to the tropical climates of the South. Warblers,
tanagers, orioles and thrushes, as well as indigenous birds and animals
make shade grown coffee farms their home. By drinking fairly traded coffee,
you can help support small-scale farmers, enabling them to farm sustainably,
preserving wildlife habitats and protecting the environment.
Organic Coffee
Vietnamese organic coffees are grown by small farmers who manage the
soil in a sustainable agricultural system promoting natural cycles and
controls, rather than chemical pesticides and fertilizers, to develop the
beans to their fullest potential. By paying a premium for their certified
organic beans, we are supporting the farmers in their commitment to the
environment.
